Historian, researcher, master of martial tradition, international speaker…
Dr. Kacem Zoughari does not merely speak about ancient Japan: he brings it to life, with precision, accuracy, and deep fidelity to its codes.
Trained for over 30 years in Japan under renowned masters, he combines field experience, advanced martial practice, academic research, and mastery of the Japanese language.
He holds a Ph.D. in Japanese Studies from the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO) in Paris. His doctoral thesis focused on the transmission of martial knowledge in classical Japan, based on rare Japanese sources, often untranslated.
He also serves as a scientific advisor and expert in Japanese martial iconography and culture for the prestigious Samurai Museum in Berlin, where he actively contributes to the enhancement of the collections and the creation of educational and immersive content.
His work goes beyond analysis: it is a living transmission, crossing eras without betraying them.
Today, he speaks around the world — in universities, cultural centers, media productions, and private circles — to shed light on what is often unseen yet changes everything.

Kacem’s historical knowledge is incredible. He knows everything about history — and honestly, about almost everything. If you ask him a question, he’ll find an answer. He can also speak and perfectly translate classical Japanese, which modern Japanese people can’t read because the old kanji are too ancient. They don’t understand them — they come from Chinese characters and are no longer officially used today. Many ancient artifacts feature this kind of writing, and Kacem can read it with ease. When I can’t identify an old kanji, I ask Kacem. He helps me tremendously in finding them. I’m very grateful to him.
